("If you should be in Rome, live in the Roman manner; if you should be elsewhere, live as they do there.")
Ceremonies and traditions are the heart and soul of Trimaris. They were shaped by both individuals and groups as they grew over forty-some years as our kingdom evolved, with roots reaching back to the earliest days of the Society. Before Trimaris was a kingdom, this land belonged to the East Kingdom, to Atenveldt, and to Meridies; each of those kingdoms left their mark on us. You can still hear echoes of their customs in ours, alongside the many traditions we created for ourselves.
Are you curious about Trimarian awards or sumptuary laws? Are you wondering how to tailor your regalia to your persona without breaking any rules? Do you need to know how to set a High Table, set up for Royal Court, or write a Peerage Elevation Ceremony? Do you want to understand what Retainers do, or learn about the history of Trimaris?
You’ll find all of that—and much more—in the Trimaris Traditions Handbook.
Click the image to open the Trimaris Traditions Handbook. You can open it in a new window, with a tab menu on the left. Use those tabs to move between sections. Each section starts with a short introduction and includes an index of the articles you’ll find there.
The Handbook is a living document, and we’ll update it as our kingdom continues to grow and evolve. If you have questions, ideas, topics you’d like us to cover, or edits we should make, please reach out. This isn’t “our” Handbook—it belongs to every Trimarian!
The Trimarian Protocol & Traditions Team is made up of:
Sundial Herald – Comitessa Marcia Dulcitia, OL, OP, OR
Deputy Sundial Herald – Mistress Katerina Isabella Sbarabaro da Firenze, OL, OP
Deputy Sundial Herald – Honorable Lady Hildegard von Grunwald
We’re the folks who love the “why” behind what we do in Trimaris—our ceremonies, our customs, our history, and the small courtesies that make our kingdom feel like home.
If you’re someone who gets excited about SCA protocol, manners, or the stories behind our traditions, we’d love to have you join us. Reach out anytime at ProtocolHerald@trimaris.org.
